How much horsepower will I gain from a performance exhaust?
On most turbo-diesel 4x4s, you can expect a gain of 5–10% in power and torque simply by bolting on a system. If you combine the exhaust with an ECU remap, gains can often exceed 30–40% depending on the vehicle.
Do I need a tune after installing an exhaust?
For most systems, no—the vehicle’s factory ECU will adjust automatically. However, to get the absolute most power out of your new high-flow exhaust (or if you remove the DPF), an ECU remap (Tune) is highly recommended.
What’s the best exhaust for towing performance?
For towing, you need torque and low exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs). A 3-inch Turbo-Back system is generally the best choice as it allows heat to escape quickly, keeping the engine cooler under load.
Will this help reduce EGTs when towing?
Absolutely. A larger diameter exhaust allows hot gases to exit the turbo much faster. This lowers your Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs), which is critical for engine longevity when towing heavy caravans or trailers.
Does a performance exhaust help with turbo lag?
Yes. By reducing backpressure behind the turbo, the exhaust gases can exit faster, allowing the turbocharger to spool up (spin) sooner. This improves throttle response.
Can I run this system with a tune later?
Definitely. Installing the exhaust first is the best way to do it. When you eventually get a tune, the tuner can unlock the full potential of the extra airflow you’ve already added.
